Music label Top Dawg Entertainment, better known as Kendrick Lamar’s home, has been entrusted with putting together the soundtrack for Marvel’s most anticipated release this year, Black Panther.
The movie itself features a South African actors stage legend John Kani, his son Atandwa Kani, and Connie Chiume. The African superhero flick will hit theaters on Friday 16 February and the soundtrack is set to drop on Friday 9th February, a week before the South African release.
Kendrick Lamar revealed the artwork and tracklist on his Twitter feed this evening and the album features 4 South African artists.
Eastern Cape’s artist-producer Yugen Blakrok joins Vince Staples on Opps.
Ambitiouz Entertainment’s Saudi features on a track titled X with Schoolboy Q and 2 Chainz.
West Ink’s first lady Babes Wodumo joins Zacari on Redemption. Zacari is best known for his vocals on K-Dot’s Love.
Another Ambitiouz native, Sjava features alongside Mozzy on Seasons.
The TDE powered album features a start-studded line-up curated and led by Kendrick himself on 5 of the 14 tracks. Travis Scott, SZA, Swae Lee, Anderson Paak, James Blake, Future and The Weeknd also made the compilation.
