Riky Rick X Nasty C X Shaxe & Asid X AB Crazy X Kid X All Dropping This Friday!

For South African hip hop, 2017 will go down as one of its best years yet; we might even have a record number of albums dropping in one calendar year, and hip hop is not even done. With December around the corner, expect to see a lot more singles and music videos dropping in the next few weeks.

If you’re dropping new music at this time of the year, you’re going against the best in the game, its no coincidence that Family Tree dropped Nadia Nakai Ft Cassper Nyovest NAA MEEEAN and Cassper’s Baby Girl video this week. The industry is securing the summer, and that means an aggressive new content push from majors and indies alike. Four weeks away from December, here’s a list of drops this Friday;

Riky Rick drops his long-awaited 8-track EP ”Stay Shining” on the back of dropping singles Buy It Out and the title track Stay Shining, featuring Cassper Nyovest, Professor, Major League DJs & Ali. In May, he dropped a stellar 3-track EP ”Scooby Snacks”, before entering into a partnership with Sony Music Entertainment through his newly established record label Cotton Club Records.

After recently dropping the visuals for Allow featuring French Montana, Nasty is ready to drop new music this week. Teaming up with longtime collaborator Tellaman, the Mabala Noise star drops self-produced Dance on Friday. Nasty is currently on his The Iverson Tour which hits Durban in December.

Hip Hop DJ Shaxe teams up with artist-producer Caask Asid to bring you You Know. The two previously worked together on Hip Hop Hooray featuring Castino & Mo Molemi and also on Wa Lathla featuring Castino. Asid is one to look out for in future, his production and rap game has been very impressive this year.

According to label-mate Kwesta, Rap Lyf has the summer covered as Kid X drops his new single Aunty featuring pop artist Chiano Sky. If the sound coming out of Rap Lyf is anything to go by, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this single has that Laundry Day x N’gud x Spirit feel. Kid X is one of the most highly rated rappers in the game, its time he lives up to all that potential.

*Update; Kwesta shared a snippet of the track on Twitter and Aunty samples the late South African songstress¬†TK’s house influenced classic How Do You Feel (feat. Twistyle). We were right on the money.

Iconic label Kalawa Jazzmee’s sole hip hop artist AB Crazy drops his sophomore album Blue Skies. The album includes Sorry featuring The Fraternity’s Muzee. Other features on the 10-track album are P Dot O, Bloemfontein based vocalist Gemi and another feature with Muzee on Truth.

Whether this crazy hip hop year translates into the genre owning the summer remains to be seen, with gqom, house music has had a major resurgence.
